Changing Microsoft Teams Default File Open Preferences

Do you hate it when Microsoft Teams opens files in the Teams interface rather than the full application on your desktop? I do too. I can appreciate that sometimes you want to use the web experience, but mostly I find it clunky and only suitable for viewing the content. If I’m intending to edit, I generally want to open the document, PowerPoint, or excel in the thick client app on my Windows device. So… if you’re like me and want it to open in the app by default, there is now an option to do so.

In your Microsoft Teams interface, select your picture, then “manage account”. This will open the settings interface with an option for “Files”. In this part of the interface is the option to select Teams (default), Desktop app, or browser.
